You will need an appointment prior to attending the clinic. Unfortunately we do not provide a walk-in service, however if you do need an appointment as quickly as possible, please call and we will try our best to get you seen as quickly as possible.

What type of shoes are best to wear to my appointment?

Please wear the shoes you would normally wear day to day. This is so the Podiatrist can give advice on your footwear and if any insoles are needed.  If you feel you may require insoles for work shoes or sports shoes, then we would advise you to bring them with you to your appointment.

What type of shoes are best to wear after nail surgery?

We would advise you to bring a wide loose shoe with you to wear after the surgery so the toe does not get squashed. The toe will be dressed and can be quite bulky so opened toed sandals, a slipper or a wide shoe is essential to be worn after the surgery.

How long will it take me to recover from nail surgery?

The healing rate differs from person to person however on average a partial nail avulsion can take 4-6 weeks to heal and a total nail avulsion can take 8-10 weeks to heal.  If the post-operative advice is followed then these healing times can be reduced.

When can I return to work/school after nail surgery?

We would advise you to rest with your foot elevated on the day of surgery.  Returning to work or school depends on the individual and activities. Some patients take a second day off and then feel fine to return to work or school.  It is essential that footwear is wide enough to accommodate the dressing and the toe gets no pressure from shoes or any other external force.

Will I have an anesthetic if I have nail surgery?

Yes you will have a local anesthetic for nail surgery which will ensure the surgery is as pain free as possible.

Can I drive after surgery?

Once having nail surgery, we strongly recommend that you do not drive as your toe will be numb from the local anesthetic and your insurance will be invalid. Unless you are using public transport, we strongly advise someone accompanies you to the appointment who is suitable to drive.

Where do I go for my re-dressing after nail surgery?

My Foot clinic will provide the option for nail surgery re-dressing appointments. We strongly advise your first re-dressing appointment is within one week of surgery. We will also provide you with education on how you can change the re-dressing yourself if required.

What shall I do if I run out of dressings?

If you require some additional dressings, please call us on 0191 519 7290 we will be happy to send them out in the post, or alternatively, you can visit your local chemist which will also supply appropriate dressings.

Can someone accompany me?

You are welcome to bring someone along with you to your appointment.
