What Are Thickened Nails?
Thickened toenails are caused from trauma. When the nail receives repetitive pressure this creates the nail to produce more nail cells and the nail becomes thickened.

What You Might Experience:

  • Thick, yellow and brown colouring
  • Nails become difficult to cut and manage.

How Can It Be Treated
Unfortunately once the nail is thickened it will never go back to a thin nail. Thickened toenails can cause problems with footwear fitting correctly and if a toenail is very thick and is left untreated, the pressure placed on the nail bed can lead to an ulcer forming under the nail plate. There are treatment options available which can be discussed with a podiatrist.
